Taylors Road forms an important east-west corridor in the City of Melton, located halfway between the Melton Highway and the Western Highway. Taylors Road currently extends from Leakes Road to the eastern boundary of the municipality. Eventually Taylors Road will be extended to Federation Drive in Melton Township.

Safety

In the five-year period between 2015 and 2019 (pre-COVID), there were 49 traffic accidents recorded on Taylors Road including seven serious crashes and 56 people injured.

Congestion

Taylors Road, west of Gourlay Road, carries approximately 22,000 vehicles per day and traffic modelling commissioned by Council indicate that this will increase to over 40,720 vehicles per day by 2031.

Population

87,000 new residents are expected to move into the Taylors Road area with the population expected to increase from 75,000 today to 162,000 by 2051. Taylors Road currently services residents in established areas of Caroline Springs, Burnside Heights and Taylors Hill and newer growth areas including Aintree, Bonnie Brook, Fraser Rise and Deanside.

Solution

  • Duplication of Taylors Road from Kororoit Creek and City Vista Court, four lanes from City Vista Ct to Westwood Drive.

  • Signalised intersections at Taylors Road, Westwood Drive, Gourlay Road, City Vista Court, Sinclairs Road, Plumton Road and Leakes Road

  • Ultimate extension of Taylors Road to Federation Drive in Melton township

  • New pedestrian and cycling paths
