The City of Melton needs a more frequent, direct and better-connected bus network. Only 1% of trips made in the City of Melton are by bus. Among the 47 existing bus routes across Melton, only 5 routes meet the minimum service level criteria. The peak frequency of most of the routes is about 30 minutes and almost all the services are highly indirect, with travel time close to twice the travel time than if by car.
Bus Network
Critically, the existing bus network lacks coverage, with whole suburbs or significant portions of suburbs having no access to bus services at all.
We have mapped out a reconfigured bus network that requires updating existing routes to create increased frequency and directness. We have also mapped out new services that could be delivered with an extra $3m a year, $5m a year and $10m a year.
